Our Gifts are for Sharing - Reflection
Each day I am constantly impressed by the great richness of talents and gifts that are displayed in children here at St Joseph’s Bardon. Whether it is in the classroom, on the sporting field, in the musical arena or in the playground, it is wonderful to observe the student’s achievements. This has been very evident since my arrival here since the beginning of the year. When reflecting on these varied gifts that we are surrounded by I was reminded of the following reflection: Perhaps you’ve heard the story of the little boy who loved music and whose Mum taught him to play “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” on the family piano.
One night he went with his Mum and a friend of hers to a concert of a great pianist. While his Mum and her friend were engaged in conversation before the concert began, the little fellow wandered off and found his way up the stairs and onto the stage, fascinated by the magnificent grand piano that stood flood-lit in the middle of the stage.
As the lights went down, his Mum was embarrassed to see the little fellow standing quietly by the grand piano beginning to play his favourite piano tune “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” as the maestro arrived on stage. The hall fell hushed as the maestro walked quietly up behind the little fellow and whispered in his ear….”keep playing”…as he began to pick up the tune and accompany the little boy on the piano.
The maestro played many wonderful pieces that night but what most everyone recalled was a little boy playing his favourite tune “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”.
Our God is like that…..takes us where we are at, with whatever the gifts we have, and encourages us every day to “keep playing” to the very best of our ability. Then he supports us and is always just at our elbow, accompanying us through our lives.
Every person in our St Joseph’s community has gifts…many gifts.. remember they are for giving, not for hoarding. The challenge for us as parents and teachers is to always encourage our children to nurture and share these gifts each and every day.
